Wedding Countdown

Weddings require a lot of planning, so make sure you’ve everything under control with our handy countdown guide.  Stress? What’s that?

Wedding countdown

One year to go…

  1. wedding countdown 365Remember that wedding vendors book up quickly, especially at peak times, so as soon as you get  engagement, book the main vendors asap.
  2. Discuss the type of wedding you would like with your new fiancé- small or large, location, civil or religious etc.
  3. Decide on a realistic budget and how you are going to pay for it all!
  4. If you decide to hire a wedding planner, do it now.
  5. Draw up rough guest list to get an idea of numbers for the reception venue (also remember the size of the location for the ceremony).
  6. Decide on a date (try to be flexible).
  7. Book ceremony location, and discuss your plans with the officiant.
  8. Decide on wedding transportation and book. Do you want a vintage car, limo or sports car? Or a coach or bus to transport your guests? Book these early!
  9. Book and pay deposit on reception venue. Make sure that you are agreeable to everything the venue stipulates before you pay a deposit, as in most cases, the deposit in non-refundable.
  10. Research photographers and book one as soon as you can. Photographers are often booked up years in advance so make this a priority. Decide if you want a professional videographer too; if so, book as soon as possible.
  11. Decide on the entertainment you want at the reception and book these as soon as you can. Again, bands and DJs are often booked up years in advance during peak times.
  12. Choose your bridesmaids and groomsmen. Brides, remember that bridesmaids can be great at helping with all the plans, so don’t be afraid to delegate tasks, even at this early stage.

Eight months to go…

  1. wedding countdown 240Brides- choose and buy your dress. Remember that some dresses take up to six months to come in, so give yourself plenty of time, remembering that you will need about a month for fittings.
  2. Decide on a colour scheme for the wedding, as this will impact on your bridesmaids, invitations and flowers. Remember that it’s not necessary to match everything – try putting your bridesmaids in a neutral colour so you can go a little more unusual with colours for flowers or invitations.
  3. Start thinking about your bridesmaids’ dresses, especially if you’re planning on having them made or ordering them in. Although they generally don’t take as long as the bride’s dress, they can take a few months.
  4. If you are having your wedding away from home and guests will require accommodation, look into options and give them plenty of notice to book. Think about sending accommodation lists with Save The Date cards.
  5. Think about you ceremony. If you require musicians or singers, book them now.
  6. Research your honeymoon, and if possible, book it now.
  7. Book pre-marriage course if required.

Six months to go…

  1. wedding countdown 180Make an appointment with your Registrar to go through the civil requirements before marriage. Remember that this HAS to be done at least three months before the wedding day. Some Registrars, especially in Dublin, are blocked up quickly, so make your appointment early- remember that both of you now have to meet with Registrar to fulfill civil obligations.
  2. Choose and order wedding stationery, eg invitations, RSVPs, thank you cards if you are choosing matching styles), place names, service booklet covers etc.
  3. Buy wedding rings (bear in mind that some rings may need to be adjusted or made especially to fit around a shaped engagement ring- this will add to the time needed to buy rings).
  4. Book florist and start talking about seasonal flowers and colour schemes with him/ her. Remember that at certain times of the year, some flowers will be difficult to come by (Christmas can be a tricky time for flowers), so if you want something specific, the more notice, the better.
  5. Groomsmen should now research into their suits- will they hire or buy? Contact your chosen supplier for details on lead times, eg if the groom wants to have a suite made, this can take several months.
  6. Research hair and make- up, especially if you’re planning on getting someone to travel to your house on the morning of the wedding.

Three months to go…

  1. wedding countdown 90Make sure your civil requirements are in order- last chance!
  2. Attend pre- marriage course.
  3. Taste and order wedding cake.
  4. Choose bridal accessories, eg shoes, tiara, etc. It’s a good idea to have these before the dress fittings begin so you get a good idea of your look while there is time to change certain features.
  5. Register for any gift lists you might like.
  6. Order favours.

Two months to go…

  1. wedding countdown 60Finalise guest list and send out invitations with RSVP date about four weeks before wedding. Begin a spreadsheet noting down any presents you might receive so the process of sending out thank you cards is not so difficult!
  2. Book make- up and hair trail if not yet done.
  3. If you are planning on wearing a fake tan, start researching and trying out products. It’s important to find the right product and colour for your skin as early as possible.
  4. Double- check your booking with vendors and make sure you have everything booked that you need.

One month to go…

  1. wedding countdown 30Final dress fitting for brides and bridesmaids. Make sure you have all your accessories, including a veil. Collect dress a few days before wedding.
  2. Buy gifts for attendants.
  3. Finalise menu with your reception venue.
  4. Meet with photographer to discuss requirements. It’s a good idea to work out a list of the photos you require so you can be sure to get exactly what you want.
  5. Meet with your band.DJ and work out a playlist. Decide on first dance and begin practicing if needs be!

Two weeks to go…

  1. wedding countdown 14 daysReview RSVP list and contact any guests who have not replied.
  2. Begin working out seating plan.
  3. Start last- minute beauty preparations, eg if you need your hair coloured, get it done at this point.
  4. Begin assembling clothes for honeymoon, remembering that the week of the wedding will be frantic.
  5. If you are having a series of facials in the run- up to your wedding, have your last one now.

One week to go…

  1. wedding countdown 7 daysFinalise numbers and inform reception venue. A finished seating plan will also be required at this stage.
  2. Attend rehearsal with officiant- remember that your parents, bridesmaids and groomsmen should also be there.
  3. Collect dress and arrange for it to be pressed, if necessary.
  4. Confirm service with any vendors and make sure they have a contact number for the day of the wedding.
  5. Get false tan done two days before the wedding.

One day to go…

  1. wedding countdown 1 dayCollect groomsmen’s suits if they haven’t been collected already.
  2. Deliver cake, favours, place names and any extras to the reception venue.
  3. Sort out payments and give them to the designated person to hand out (usually the best man).
  4. Delegate wedding day tasks to your attendants- eg someone to look after gifts etc.
  5. Delegate post- wedding tasks to attendants, eg picking up and returning any hired attire.
  6. Try to relax, and have an early night!

THE BIG DAY!

  1. Give yourself plenty of time to get ready.
  2. Remember to eat, as it’s often a long day before the dinner is served.
  3. So don’t worry if anything goes wrong. Things generally work out on the day, and if something disastrous happens, such as a vendor not turning up, try to work it out, put it behind you and enjoy the rest of your day. Remember the important thing is that you’re marrying the person you love, everything else is just a bonus.
  4. Try to relax, delegate tasks and most of all have fun! This is your wedding day so enjoy every minute!

Getting It Write – Wedding Stationery

Gilt-edged formality or romantic florals? Crisp white or elegant champagne? Ornate type face or plain? Calligraphy? Embossing? Engraving? Invitation cards, RSVPs, wedding booklets for the church, place name cards for the reception – the wedding paper trail can be exhausting!

b2ap3_thumbnail_il_570xN.580143204_broj.jpg

MyDreamWedding.ie offers some quick tips to get you out of a paper jam:

  • Bewildered brides must start with their wedding theme and colour scheme when selected the stationary. An elaborate, blow-the-budget wedding should have an equally lavish invitation. A more informal wedding should have equally simple and informal stationary. Everything from the quality of your paper to the typeface should all reflect the theme, colour scheme and style of your big day.
  • The wording should also be considered but the basic invitation must mention the wedding date, the couple getting married, church and reception details and an RSVP date and address. If there’s a specific dress code, state it in the invitation and directions or a small map to the church and reception is always a helpful addition. Couples can also opt to include a separate RSVP card and envelope and details, if any, of their wedding gift registry.
  • The creative bride can create her own invitations with the help of companies such as Daintree Paper who stock all the most beautiful papers and trimmings from all over the world. The also creative staff from their store on Camden Street who can show you how to craft your own perfect wedding invitations.
  • Or you leave it in the hands of a professional stationer such as Mochua Print & Design in Laois or Chanel in Dublin who will make beautiful uniquely designed wedding invitations for you.
  • Make sure you get to proof read everything for spelling, dates, names and times before it goes to print.
  • Make sure you accurately order as many as you need as having more printed can end up being costly.
  • Since wedding invitations are sent about six weeks before the actual event, you need to make sure you order them well in advance. Not only do you need to wait for them to arrive, but you also need time to address them all.

Pink to make the boys wink!

Today’s inspiration is a pink theme for your wedding colour palette. Pink is generally associated with delicacy, femininity and romance and if you’ve chosen this colour for your big day, we must say- it’s a great (and very popular) choice! If you are still deciding, hopefully this post will send some inspiration your way! We’ve put together few samples to give you an idea of what works well based on season and colour combination.

A perfect palette for this colour would be a match of sweet pink, white and glittery gold. This combination is great for a Winter wedding. Depending on the season however, some colours to mix and match with your pink staple would be:

Spring: turquoise, yellow, purple
Autumn: orange, brown, rustic, burgundy, dark green
Summer: palest pastels of pinks, blues and yellows

In some cases the boys may be wincing rather than winking, as pink is a very girly colour and some grooms may not be a fan. If your heart is set on pink why not choose these images of soft pink and peachy hues, they are so romantic for any wedding theme. Perhaps pair them with brown or black for a more masculine feel.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something BLUE!

I’m a big fan of all things blue, I absolutely love the mix of turquoise bridesmaid dresses, especially if you’re planning a summer wedding. The colour compliments tanned glowing skin so beautifully. I’d suggest a royal blue or ice blue if you’re planning a winter wedding. As a child I always believed blue was for boys, so your groom is sure to agree with the choice of colour.

Hello Yellow!!!

A yellow wedding theme reminds me of Spring. It’s fresh, bright and full of life. There are many different shades to choose from and they all work well with grey, green, purple and white. However, If you like the idea of a yellow winter wedding choose golden yellows rather than light or bright yellows. I have to say, I love a grey tuxedo with a crisp withe shirt and yellow details the colours compliment each other really well and it’s a welcome alternative to the black tuxedo

Rosanna, who is getting married this June, is asking all brides and grooms to be, to consider ISPCA wedding Favours for their guests instead of chocolates or sugared almonds and support the ISPCA on their big day. Rosanna wore a stunning Pronovius Siliba wedding dress kindly supplied by Cathy De Stafford and beautiful wedding bouquet kindly donated from O’Connor florists, Longford. For more information, visit www.ispca.ie

Beautiful bride-to-be Rosanna Davison braved the cold weather with her pooches Ted and Leo to promote ISPCA’s Wedding Favours as an alternative to traditional chocolates. ISPCA Wedding Favours are a lovely idea for couples who want to do something a little bit different, and personal, on their wedding day.

Rosanna Davison said: “For animal lovers everywhere, the ISPCA wedding favours are a wonderfully unique way to thank your guests for being part of your special day. Being able to tie them in with the chosen colour scheme on your big day, and using a picture of your beloved pet’s means that they can also play a part in your wedding. But most importantly, the money raised from wedding favours will go directly to saving the lives of hundreds and thousands of animals. That most definitely beats chocolate wedding favours any day.” she said.

ISPCA Wedding Favours come in beautiful designs and are not only a thoughtful gift for guests, but they provide life-saving support to animals in need. Please go to www.ispca.ie for more information.

AFFORDABLE WEDDING ATTIRE

Anyone who reads my blog will know I’m a huge fan of TK Maxx. I’m signed up for there newsletters and I received an email from them with some exciting news for anyone planning a wedding. Bargain hunting brides on a budget will be happy to hear, that in mid January TK Maxx unveiled the latest items to hit their stores, bridal gowns and accessories.

“Brides to be need look no further for the perfect wedding dress. From traditional to contemporary, we have beautiful designer dresses and bridal accessories at irresistible prices, helping make your dream day even more special, without blowing the budget. Shop online at tkmaxx.com or find big brand and quality wedding gems at selected stores.”

At the moment the bridal wear is available at TK Maxx, Carrickmines it has yet to arrive in other stores. Bear in mind ladies, TK Maxx get new stock deliveries everyday, so if you pop out to Carrickmines and can’t find what you’re looking for, be sure to plan another visit. The stock it ever changing and it’s worth  biding your time, you never know what’s to come. It’s a sea of designer labels which are always up to 60% less the RRP. Wedding dress prices range from €139.99 to €549.99.

I haven’t been to the Carrickmines store but here’s a quick look at some of the bridal wear I came across online. This is from there UK website as I couldn’t get images of stock from Carrickmines. However, TK Maxx Ireland often get the same items as the UK based stores. I know this from experience.

b2ap3_thumbnail_wedding-dress-a1_20140210-182957_1.jpgb2ap3_thumbnail_wedding-dress-a2_20140210-182958_1.jpgb2ap3_thumbnail_wedding-dress-a4_20140210-183000_1.jpgb2ap3_thumbnail_wedding-dress-a3_20140210-183001_1.jpg

The dresses above are just a taste of what’s available. Basically I’m just giving you an idea of what you might find in store. I’d advise you to take a trip to Carrickmines for a better selection. Drop me a line if you come across any fabulous finds. I’m tempted to drive over myself just for a nose.

Wedding Photographer’s Tips & Tricks for Perfect Photos

0

There are three key considerations to take into account when getting great wedding photographs. These are – the light, the location and a good attitude. This infographic goes through the little details that you need to know about.

Speak to your photographer about the editing of the photographs afterwards and what you are expected to get. Make sure and identify the style you want, especially if you are having a themed wedding. Have a look at photographer portfolios online to get some inspiration.

Draw up an itinerary of the day, as timing is key when organising photography, especially with a full Bridal party and extended family. Check your travel times to the venue or if you have a specific photography location agreed upon in advance.

Think location, location, location. It is important, but be realistic on how long it takes to get there and back, especially if it’s a separate location to your wedding reception.

Red carpets might look great, but on camera they can cause a red glow on the skin, so best to avoid them. Make sure to avoid the sunlight where possible as it can be the cause of you squinting your eyes, get sun burnt and cast shadows on the photographs,

When posing for photographs try to smile and relax. Enjoy the day and the time with your new husband or wife. Every Bride should get professional hair and makeup on the day but also have a trial run a few weeks before the wedding.

Thanks http://www.objektiv.com.au for this great infographic
